September is Life Insurance Awareness Month

Suppose we all learned during the past year and a half with several quarantine mandates, social distancing, and the health-related complications and death as a result of the pandemic. Life can change quickly beyond our control.

Therefore,  as our children resume a semi-normal school year and business straddle with hybrid schedules, I suspect we can agree that the future is filled with uncertainty. September is Life Insurance Awareness Month hence, there is value in having a life insurance policy.  It can provide assurance and peace of mind in fulfilling financial gaps in protecting loved ones.

On a positive note for the future that many are planning for wonderful and exciting life events such as weddings, a new home, a new family addition, and perhaps, preparing for retirement: all Joyus and happy milestones to celebrate.

Hence, if someone depends on you and your income for support, life insurance is a conversation not to avoid. A life insurance policy can provide supplemental financial security and income, according to Life Happens.org. “Life insurance covers virtually any type of living expense.” Expenses can include a car loan or mortgage debt, daily living expenses, and future goals of education and retirement.

Now, is the decision of a Term or Permanent life insurance policy?

After my husband’s death, I took out a term policy to ensure funding for my son’s living expenses and education needs was available to cover them until graduation.

Term Life insurance is similar to rent, you pay for a specific period such as a lease, and the policy ends at the end of the term . . . 10, 20, or 30 years. Term Policies are less expensive and they protect specific needs.

Permanent life insurance lifelong protection for as long as you pay the premiums. It also accumulates cash value on a tax-deferred basis, which you can tap into to buy a home, supplement your retirement income, cover an emergency expense, and more.[1]
